The society of the Freunde des Deutschen Herzzentrums Berlin (English: friends of the German heart center Berlin) is a non-profit association having set itself to supporting the Deutsche Herzzentrum in Berlin. In fact, saving people with heart diseases, causes enormous costs which are not always covered by health insurance.

Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin

Since 1986, the Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin has been a high-performance heart centre specializing in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, the implantation of artificial hearts as well as the transplantation of hearts and lungs. The non-profit foundation of civil law applies clinical ethics and provides medical and care services on the highest levels of expertise and technology.

The effect of donations

Donations raised by the Gesellschaft der Freunde des Deutschen Herzzentrums Berlin e.V. help to pay for heart surgeries and the support of families. They are also used for research on the improvement of treatments at the Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin.

Moreover, publications and presentations promoting the consulting of affected patients and families are financially supported.

Heart surgeries for children

The focus of the Freundesgesellschaft lies on the support of children’s treatment and surgery, which are not covered by health insurance. In fact, in cooperation with the children’s heart center of the Deutsches Herzzentrum, the Gesellschaft der Freunde des Deutschen Herzzentrums has enabled treatments and surgeries of children from many countries of the world, the costs per surgery ranging from € 20,000 to € 50,000.
